Update for a new millenium
The year 2000 began for Roman Bunka at the Pyramids
in Cairo where he took
part in the Millenium Concert there with Mohamed Mounir and Jean-Michel
Jarre.
Solo concerts in Yemen and a tour with Mounir in Algeria and Morocco
followed. The high point of the tour was the "unplugged" performance
with Hamid
Baroudi and Roland Schäffer on Algerian television. Roman arranged
several title songs for Mounir's new CD, including a traditional Sufi
composition called "Maadat"(giving praise), a great success
on Arabian
MTV. As musician he participated in Grace Yoon’s Radio-play "Family
Affair", along with Ernst Reijseger, Xizhi Nie and Lauren Newton.
In 2001 Roman
gave concerts in Germany with the Yemeni group "Firka al
achwa". He composed the music for Fritz Baumann‘s film "Anansi"
and
Heiner Stadler’s
"Essen, schlafen, keine Frauen", that both premiered at the
Munich Film
Festival 2002.
He also produced the soundtrack for Herbert Brödl’s film "Eclipse".
In
Munich, Roman worked with the "Nie Quartett", centered on the
Chinese
musician Xizhi Nie, along with Gunnar Geisse (Banjo, Dotar) and Karsten
Hochapfel (Cello) – an exceptional formation where the Arab "aoud"
(lute) harmonizes with Chinese and Uzbekistani instruments.
